Salem's Thriller Re-enactment Stirs the Dead

Thriller1

Darkness falls across the land
The midnight hour is close at hand
Salem crawls in search of blood
To terrorize y’alls neighborhood.

The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years
And grizzly ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom.

And though you fight to stay alive
Your body starts to shiver
For no mere Salemite can resist
The evil of the thriller.

Ignore the obvious — that there was more life out there on the streets of Salem tonight than usual, and it was the life of the walking dead — and you have Salem’s contribution to the Thriller cultural behemoth.

The mass MJ meetup took place on Liberty and Chemeketa tonight at 5:30 prompt and lasted just about 11 minutes. I’m going to go ahead an nominate this one for best Salem family event of the year.

If you look closely, you might have even seen the spirit of MJ himself giving cred to the event.

I so want to do this, but my very tenderhearted kids are freaked by even mild doses of gore. Sigh. They’re concerned that some ppl’s costumes will be a bit much for them.

  2. That’s too bad. This little kid grabbed his crotch and pointed at the sky for us, but I thought that a little gauche for my blog. He was on fire! Apparently, he’s obsessed with MJ and his parents were inclined to address it with a trip downtown. The actual re-enactment was awesome. Even more awesome? This little kid doing all the moves on the sidewalk. You can see him in the upper photo directly to the right of the arrow.

The gore was really not too bad. Mostly baby-powder and a little blood.

And let the kid know that we will be doing this again, MUCH bigger, next year as a part of our 13 Nights of Halloween event, again with the Cherry City Derby Girls. If anyone is interested that wants to get on the list for next year, have them send me an e-mail at cultureshockproject@gmail.com Next year we are going to invite all school dance classes to put on lessons leading up to the event, so we hope to get at least 100 or more participants in Salem alone.

  4. I don’t know the kid personally… He’s just a boy — that says MJ is the one…

Thanks for the info about next year’s events
