Great Expectations

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks. Now it’s the New Year, with a new family member, new aches and pains, and I’ve got new ideas of what counts as “getting sleep.”

I will spare you all the really gory details of the birth of our first son, a whopping 9 lbs. 3 oz., 21 inches, who arrived December 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Silverton Hospital after I was in labor for three days (I blame that Dungeness crab dish at La Capitale, which I ate over lunch on the 23rd…).

By the way, if it’s not “progressing” apace,  it’s not true labor.

Uh huh. Well, I was sure in crabwalk labor for a long time — it never let up.

So yeah. I’m exhausted.

But let me tell you something. As he was flying in the air from my doctor’s hands to my belly, the only thing in my head was that I could do it again.

And I probably will.

Just not this week. Or this month. Or this year.

Say hi to the world, James Dashiell Diesburg!

What a cutie – he looks so sweet. Congratulations to all!

  5. Congratulations! What a perfect Christmas present. He’s so cute, and you look so happy! Best advice I received when I was a new mom…. sleep when he sleeps. Don’t use that time “to catch up” on chores or other odds and ends. Take a nap with him. You’ll feel so much better and more relaxed and rested.

    Cheers, Cindy

Congratulations to you and your husband. That little guy is lucky to be growing up in a loving home with two terrific people for parents. Enjoy every moment with that bundle of joy.

  7. Congratulations Emily and Adam! What a great start to the new year. Enjoy every wakeful moment, but do try and get some sleep – I think you’ve earned that privilege.

    WELCOME TO THE WORLD JAMES!

    Best Wishes,

  12. Thanks to everyone! You’re all complete dolls. Dash is doing great. We’re not sleeping too much… but I’m hanging in there and trying to enjoy all the preciousness. One of the easiest tasks of my life, the second part of that sentence…

Oh he looks so precious! I hope you are recovering well and I’m so very happy that the delivery, although loooonnnngggg, went smoothly. And at 9 lbs, you should really get some sort of metal!

The day after Christmas is a crazy time for a birthday or delivery though. My daughter’s birthday is Christmas Eve, but I couldn’t have imaged a better Christmas ever!

    Congrats!
