Anyone have any idea why a city of over 150,000 people, in the state known as Beervana, has not a single Microbrewery/Brewpub to call its own??

(And while I love the atmosphere at every McMenamins, they don't really count)

Someone, please throw me a bone here.

Sad to hear you are leaving, but congrats on the new opportunities... McMinnville is a fun town, haven't spent a ton of time there, but have always enjoyed myself when we have gone up that way... And congrats on your first home too, yay! :)

Bummer that anyone felt the need to respond as above... :(

Emily, thanks for pointing out what makes Salem sparkle. It was a joy to find your blog when my husband and I finally decided to buy a house and commit to living here. Merely days before this goodbye post I forwarded your blog to a friend who has just bought a house 2 blocks from me. Hopefully she can enjoy your past posts and perspective of Salem as much as I have.

Every city and community has it's positives and negatives, it's how you look at it that makes all the difference. I appreciate that you demonstrated how people should view a new community, with open eyes and a glimmer of hope that you can discover what is awesome about where you live. I'm sure that you will do the same for McMinnville. Maybe you can update this blog at a later date showing some of the great things you've discovered on your new adventure.

Good luck with the move, you will be missed.

Um... can anybody say, kiss with a fist? With time, most of the haters have gone to hate elsewhere and I so rarely get negative comments. That's the sad thing about blogs -- like attracts like. But I never saw myself as some kind of classist hater, so it would be sad if that's what people read into this project.

I say shutter the site. While you've provided a fine service, I feel your site spawned a bunch of classist copy cats in which people crap on the place they eat, work, and play - as if they were cooler than Salem.

McMinnville's 3rd st. is neat, but McMinnville has less to do, suffers the same social problems, is more conservative, and resides in a county that has a very low college completion rate. No McCrapping from the Salem haters? No McMethville jokes? Will we see a patronizing blog title like the one this site sports emerge about McMinnville?

Good luck to you where ever you go.

I definitely think the blog should remain because there is a lot of useful info for folks, especially those considering a move to Salem.

Maybe it can continue sort of like the EatSalem blog, which seems to have a lot of different contributors. Maybe you just need a traffic cop to oversee those contributions.
